The course will analyse the situation and the role of the judiciary in authoritarian regimes. We will not exclusively focus on the normative frame (e. g. constitutional guarantees of the independence of the judiciary), but also take into account the actual administration of justice and the social situation of judges. The seminar will predominantly deal with developments in Austria in the 19th and 20thcentury, but also examine nazi Germany.
Lecture and discussion
Presentation of a paper and contributions to the discussion.
