Doing family

Family life in Tyrol in the 21^st century - what is it alike? Who belongs to our family? What do women, what men think about it? Is it still appropriate to differentiate between urban and rural areas? Or do the living conditions, consumption habits, life-styles of men and women, of rural and urban inhabitants increasingly merge?

With biographical interviews, genograms, mind maps, secondary analysis of statistics and developing a semi-standardized questionnaire we will explore and discuss these questions and seek to answer them.

During the course different methods of data acquisition and analysis (biographical interview, genogram, mind map, semi-standardized questionnaire, secondary analysis of statistics) will be introduced and exemplified. The methods will be tried out by the participants in the research field. The students will present their experiences and initial results of their analysis. In the ensuing discussion we will focus on the appropriateness of the methods used to the research field. The students will develop their capacity for teamwork by working in small groups. 

Individual research protocols, a joint developed questionnaire, a collective presentation (with handout), and a research report with main results and initial interpretations in co-edition.
Continuous attendance and active participation are expected as a matter of course.
