At the end of the course, the students will be able to employ the most important methods and skills of English communication in a business context.

In detail, the course will include the following skills:  presenting oneself (curriculum vitae, job interviews)  self-management (goal-setting, time and stress management)  telephoning and writing e-mails and memos  discussion skills  successful presentation techniques  developing a business plan. The business context comprises principles of economics as well as the internal and external structuring of business enterprises.

The above mentioned skills will be trained by means of simulations, pair and group work, and case studies. In addition, reflections and de-briefings will be used.

The student's ongoing participation in class as well as several short written assignments and submission of a business plan will be used to assess the student's performance. There will also be an oral exam in groups. Students have to keep a web-log (via e-campus). Regular attendance is required.

The course uses the manual "Skills in Context" which will be distributed in class at the beginning of the semester.
