Meetings have become an integral part of modern day business life. This course will show how to get the most out of business meetings by training and applying simple, yet effective methods as well as specific language and communication skills.

By the end of this course students will be able to • Prepare (for) meetings • participate effectively in different types of meetings • chair meetings successfully • use a variety of moderation techniques to guarantee a high degree of efficiency • deal with difficult situations in team meetings • apply general debating and discussion skills • give and receive feedback handle written tasks effectively (minute taking, note taking, memos, circulars, ...)

Students will have the opportunity to explore and develop their skills through role plays and simulations, presentations, case studies as well as individual, pair or group work. We will also work with reflections and de-briefings to create more self- and language awareness.

Continuous assessment of students’ class performance (level of motivation, willingness to experiment with new situations and language, preparation for class), a mini-presentation, short written assignments, a web-log and a semester-project. Participation is mandatory

Course manual “Meetings & Moderation” (will be provided by trainer) + “Selected readings on Meetings and Moderation” (library, internet).
