603701 Principals of Educational Science: Advanced II:Continuity and Change in Generational Relations
summer semester 2017 | Last update: 14.09.2023 | Place course on memo listWith successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- handle a given scientific problem independently
- portray the current state of research on a specific topic
- decide for matching research methods according to a research question
- do empirical research
- understand and analyze social and societal operating and transmission processes
- reflect and judge on the consequences of analyzed transmitted values
In the course we will link generational relations, migration and educational research to examine the present images and bodies of knowledge about migration at the institution school. We will further analyze the role of generational and peer to peer relations for the transmission of values and the construction of dominant discourses about migration.
This will be exemplified by researching the question: “Which values, images and norms about migration are inter- and transgenerational transmitted at the institution school and how?”
To find answers to this question we need to analyze the general importance of school for transmitting and constructing attitudes. In addition, it is necessary to uncover, describe and critically judge on the present values. Moreover we will gain a basic understanding of the function of generational relations.
We will work together on the research question: “Which values, images and norms about migration are inter- and transgenerational transmitted at the institution school and how?” This demands the recapitulation of the current state of research, the decision for a certain research methods and their applications in the field, as well as the analyses of the research results and their description and presentation.
The following methods will be used in the course:
Presentations by the lecturers and the students, applying research methods in the field (for example: Text analyses, Interviews, Computer assisted data evaluation), Poster Presentation
Course with formative assessment – the following assignments will be taken into consideration for the final grade:
1. Scientific Paper
2. Poster Presentation
3. Participation at discussions
A list of the literature will be made available at the beginning of the semester. Selected excerpts will be provided.
