610006 PS American Literature: What Writers Write about When They Write about Writing
summer semester 2017 | Last update: 02.05.2017 | Place course on memo listName landmarks of American literature; give criteria for a work’s prominence within literary canons/popular culture; write better than before
What are the ingredients of a great story, and how do writers mix them to create their masterpieces? In this course we will let writers themselves speak – canonized (Edgar Allan Poe, Henry James) as well as popular ones (Stephen King, John Grisham). We will compare their theories about writing with how they apply them to their works of fiction, thus digging into such concepts as art, craft, quality, prestige, and social responsibility
