This course examines the origins and development of slavery in North America. It investigates the economic and social origins of North American slavery, the ways in which it changed over time, and the experiences of the enslaved. Major themes include the diverse forms of slavery, the slave trade, slave culture, resistance, manumission, abolitionism, and the legacy and memory of slavery.
