Obtain the comprehension of linguistic development, of the internal and external history of the Spanish language, in order to understand the current linguistic state as temporary result of a long ongoing process; on this basis analysis of texts from different centuries.

Analysis of the internal and external diachronic development of the Spanish language, i.e. on the one hand explaining linguistic change through historical and political conditions and on the other hand reconstructing linguistic changes on the phonetic and phonological, morphosyntactic, semantic, lexicological, etc. level.   

Partially lecture by the teaching person, partially presentations by the students.

Oral and written: presentations, short written works, test.

As a precondition for attending this course, teacher training students and diploma students need the following courses: Einführung in das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten, Einführung in die spanische Sprachwissenschaft, Sprachkurs Spanisch C and Grammatischen Analyse. Bachelor students need the modules 2, 3, 7, 8 and 13. Please check in your respective curricula.

The course starts at the beginning of the semester.
