Students get a survey of the characteristics of the Slavonic languages and cultures and their historical development.

Taking various approaches to the description of standard languages as point of departure, the Slavonic languages and language cultures as well as their historical development are described. Another issue is the relationship of Slavonic languages to other language families and sprachbuende in Europe.
