Acquisition of reading and translation competence in Czech as a C language with resort to Russian as a bridge language. The course targets Czech reading competence level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Furthermore, the course aims at improving self-directed language learning competence in the sense of lifelong learning.

Training of receptive strategies according to the technique of Optimised Deduction based on the genetic relationship between Czech and Russian; teaching of Czech grammar with resort to prior knowledge of Russian; training of the competence to produce direct translations from Czech; raising students' awareness of the language learning process.

Cognitive-constructivist learning method: introduction by the course lecturer, interactive class sessions, intensive self-study.

Continuous assessment, regular written assignments, final translation exam.

Will be discussed in the first lesson.

Good command of Russian: minimum reading competence B1 to B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

The course is complemented by the lecture "Introduction to EuroCom" (course number 613071). Students wishing to complete optional module 8 (BA) or 3 (MA) need to attend both courses.
