622004 PS Contemporary History: Austria and the CSCE process
summer semester 2017 | Last update: 09.03.2017 | Place course on memo listAcquisition of basic competences in dealing with historical sources and representations on Contemporary History (on the 20th and 21st century ) as well as the ability to present the newly-acquired knowledge in oral and/or written form; acquisition of fundamental knowledge and use of relevant scientific methods.
This course focuses on the role of Austria in the CSCE process (from the negotiations in Helsinki 1973 until the follow up meeting in Vienna 1986–1989). The CSCE was a very important platform for the development of mutual understanding in the Cold War, in which Austria together with the other N+N states advocated a reduction of tensions between the blocks. In this course we will pay special attention to media debates in Austria.
Oral presentations and handout/paper, paper, discussion; publication of the research results.
Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation and handout, final paper (~10 pages). The final paper is the basis for the publication of the research results on Wikipedia.
A reading list will be provided at the beginning of the course.
Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
