Acquisition of basic competences in dealing with historical sources and representations on Contemporary History (on the 20th and 21st century ) as well as the ability to present the newly-acquired knowledge in oral and/or written form; acquisition of fundamental knowledge and use of relevant scientific methods.

1968 stands as a synonym for unrest and upheaval, as a symbol for awakening and departure into new social structures, as a year that settled old accounts with the establishment. Student unrest, Prague Spring, Tet-Offensive, the massacre of Tlatelolko, the murder of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy or Rudi Dutschke are equally standing out as terms defining the “code 68”. How much do we still see of the “myth of 1968” more than 40 years after the events?

Reading in class, oral presentations and handout, paper, discussion and exercises.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, oral presentation and hand-out, paper (12 pages), written exam.

A full reading list will be provided at the first session.
