641100 Human-Animal Studies - Bridging the gap between Academia and Society
summer semester 2017 | Last update: 21.06.2023 | Place course on memo listA deepened understanding of the academic field of the human-animal studies, disseminating competences for this discipline in various contexts of society such as schools, nonformal settings (e.g. youth work), adult education, psychology, sociology, architecture, literature, language, environmental management, economy, politics and many more.
The human- animal relationship as a complex phenomenon increasingly attracts interest in the academic field, not only in the natural sciences but notably in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The human-animal studies analyse the human-animal relationship in an interdisciplinary and critical way. They thereby connect society and science and provide possibilities for knowledge transfer and social change. In this course we will develop possible options on how to approach the various human-animal relationships in different contexts of society and on how to integrate Human-Animal Studies in society in order to improve the conditions for non-human animals.
We will work together on different tasks, as discussing papers, giving presentations, analyzing texts, reflecting critically on society, looking at the education system and our own behavior and developing more ethical possibilities.
Active participation, giving a presentation and setting up a portfolio of the seminar’s tasks.
