The seminar’s goal is to approach the concept of ‘World Literature‘ by examining current critical and literary positions.

The structures of world literary formations and imaginaries are based on the concept of cosmopolitanism, its cultural practices and displacements. When speaking of cosmopolitanism, we have to find out and disclose whose cosmopolitanism are we talking about.

This seminar explores the theoretical concepts of cosmopolitanism, examines its positions, tensions and affirmations, and compares literary articulations from the ‘center’ Europe to the ‘peripheries’ e.g. Argentina.

Ability for reading English texts is required! Willingness to read French and Spanish texts, which will also be available in German translations, is kindly requested.
