645203 PS Austrian History: Lands and State Idea

Acquiring knowledge of an important era in Austrian history. Training in teaching research results.
The issues and problems of the history of Austrian countries, Hungary and Bohemia (starting from the Middle Ages) and the gradual development of the State Idea (primarily from the 18th century) will be dealt with selected topics. Furthermore, the problematic nature of the term “Austrian” will be considered, and the access to history of events will be supplemented with methodical reflexions about the term “regional history”.
Topics will be introduced in lectures; essays and sources will be analysed in group work; and presentations will be given by seminar participants.
Seminar participants will be required to attend lectures, actively participate in discussions, do tasks individually and in groups, present one topic (and prepare a handout), and write a paper (15 pages).
