Acquisition of knowledge dealing with sources of and literature in Austrian History. Getting aware of the open or hidden intentions of various historiographic approaches. Enlargement and consolidation of knowledge in the field of Austrian History.

The course is focusing on Austrian History between the propagation of the Hereditary Empire and the eve of the First World War. Political ruptures (such as 1848, 1867, ethnic tensions), topics of Foreign Policy (German Federation, Austria´s reorientation towards southeastern Europe), social (rise of middle class, working class movements), economic (infrastructure, industrialization) and cultural developments will be treated.

Active acquisition of scientific papers, participation in discussions, oral presentation and written (team-) papers.

Continuous assessment, attendance at all sessions, participation in discussions, presentations, written papers.

Prerequsite: Active knowledge of Basics in Austrian History (BW ÖG3). A list of relevant publications is posted via OLAT. The research for relevant publications on specific topics is part of the training.

Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
