By attending this course students acquire a first orientation knowledge about historic Carinthia and Carniola between 1915 and 1918. Which traces of the First World War can be found in war theatres and the hinterland of the Carnian and Julian Alps? How was and how is the memory of this war instrumentalized in public and private remembrance?

The course covers offers an orientation of the events of the First World War in the regional context 1915-1918. It provides the topical preparation of the excursion (LV 645212) in a general way and supports the individual preparation of the participants.

Presentations of the course instructor, discussion of relevant literature, preparation of the presentations of the excursion, individual feedbacks.

Participation in discussions, oral presentations and preparation of a handout and other material for the field trip.

Will be announced in class and via OLAT.

The excursion takes place in September 2017. The attendance of the corresponding course "EX-645212" is obligatory.
