· recognize the differences between various academic cultures
· understand the rules and roles in academic publishing
acquire skills and know-how for concrete publication projects
Both the production and the transfer of scientific knowledge depend on academic texts. Some conventions have long been established for the communication of knowledge, while new ones continue to emerge.
Topics:
· Writing during research
· Putting research findings into writing
· Academic genres: research, teaching and popularization
· European and Anglo-American styles of academic writing
· Basics of academic English
Strategies and mechanics of publishing
This seminar treats the general conditions and requirements for the production of scientific texts, with discussion of factors specific to different disciplines and scientific cultures.
The seminar aims to help participants apply their implicit knowledge to achieve explicit goals.
The seminar will include presentation, reflection, discussion, exercises, Q&A and exchanging experiences.
Performance assessment will be based on active participation in the seminar and on completing tasks and exercises.
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
Ranking of registration:
Students will be ranked according to semesters, higher ranked semesters are preferred. In case the decision has to be made between two students with the same amount of semesters, the one with more ECTS is preferred.
