Getting to know the basics and methods of modeling from the viewpoint of the various fields of study.
Philosophy, methods and practical applications of modelling: Basics and examples from various research areas. Topics (examples): "Verification & validation needs and approaches, with examples from fusion research and plasma physics"; "Neural networks - applications and comparisons of real and mathematical neural networks"; "Modelling of molecular dynamics"; "Modelling and reality - the physical/chemical viewpoint", "Elephant and ant: the organization of computational science"; "Chance, ignorance and probability", "Multi-scale modelling of solids".
Incentive talks by the lectures and joint discussions. Short summary presentations of the participating students at the end of the term.
Continuous assessment. Participation in the discussions. The participating students are giving short summary presentations (each ca. 10 min) at the end of the term about the topics of the lecture.
Will be announced beforehand and will be published on the Homepage.
