Students will learn the fundamentals of methods od social research. - The lecture provides the fundamentals of empirical research. It presents an overview of the main methods and the different approaches in social research considering their epistemological and methodological backgrounds (Curriculum, §5).
Short description: This course gives an overview of qualitative and quantitative research methods in the social sciences. Students learn basic concepts and approaches in each method and its scientific backgrounds. Learning targets: - Understand how to link theoretical concepts and empirical research - Become acquainted with the practical research process (specifying a research question, choosing an adequate research design, collecting, analyzing and interpreting data). - Be able to collect data using standard research methods (surveys, interviews, observations, focus groups). This course is divided into two parts. In the first part we mainly treat quantitative methods, in the second part we focus on qualitative methods.
