The seminar conveys basic principles of qualitative as well as quantitative empirical social research. The seminar focuses on the introduction in and use of empirical methods. Conducting a concrete, small-scale research project the students learn how to identify research questions, to differentiate between qualitative and quantitative social research and research methods and to develop an own research concept.

Fieldwork is actually really hard work. The focus will be on the practical doing, therefore there are no oral presentations. Each of you will get familiar with the qualitative methode of semi-structured interview (25./26.11.2016) as well as the quantitative methode of questionaire (3./4.2.2017). Furthermore each of you will conduct an interview, transcribe the interview (28.11.2016-15.1.2017) and do a quantitative  survey with 10 people (6.2.-12-2.2017). Finally, each of you will write a report, where you describe and reflect the applied methods (26.2.2017).
