SE Theory-Based Quantitative Empirical Social and Policy Analysis

This seminar deals with the interlinkage of theoretical positions and empirical research questions; theoretical positions and their resulting consequences for quantitative empirical research are discussed.

By reading and discussing classic and contemporary literature on comparative social science, seminar participants acquire theoretical knowledge and methodical skills in particular in quantitative comparative social and policy analysis. In addition, they conduct autonomous research on individually chosen topics, possibly in small research teams, write a research report and present and discuss research results. 

Introductory lecture; reading and writing small texts on research literature; doing research and writing a research report, possibly in small research teams.


Small written texts and oral discussion to the research literature (30%); written research report, possibly as a team (70%).
