Expansion and consolidation of specific knowledge in the field of contemporary history by examination of new and uncommon topics, taking into account current tendencies and controversies of research, applying scientific skills (methods and working techniques) and linking with basic content, development of skills for the independent formulation of historical questions.

Migration is not only talked about when addressing worldwide migration movements. It also applies to regionally limited migration due to economic or social crisis (e.g. the “Schwabenkinder”), because of dictatorships and persecution (e.g. the Sudeten Germans, the “Option” or the “Hutterites”) or simply because people have better job-opportunities outside their home-countries (e.g. contemporary work-migration of high-qualified academics to English-speaking countries – brain drain). These and many more forms of migration histories will be at the focus of the seminar – without geographical limits to certain regions, but with a focus on the 20^th and 21^stcenturies.
