winter semester 2017/2018 | Last update: 22.11.2017 | Place course on memo listThe students have knowledge about the most important approaches in gender studies and feminist theory. They are able to classify and explain them. They know examples of relevant current research works, selected results of empirical gender specific research as well as main the concepts and perspectives. They are able to connect gender with other scientific perspectives such as as sexuality, nationality, class and ethnicity.
This course is meant to be a basic introduction into gender studies. Starting from current gender relevant topics in the mass media students acquire insights into different approaches and perspectives of gender studies. Social and cultural gender relations are analyzed and discussed.
Text readings, group and plenary discussions of short film screenings, input by the course instructor.
Regular and active participation, reading and short presentations, final written assigenment.
