The students are familiar with the new developments of reproductive Technologies and are able to discuss them from different ( historical, bioethical, educational and psychoanalytical) points of view.

The cultural dissociation of sexuality and reproduction leads to increasing interventions of reproductive technologies such as IVF, sperm donation, surrogacy and further technologies such as genom-editing. Reprotechnologies fuel promises of salvation which suggest freedom from disease (also from prospective deseases like cancer or dementia) or "improved/enhanced traits of progeny created by using them. Moreover they promise to fulfill any desire of heterosexual/ homosexual couples and singles for a child. The VU discusses historical, bioethical, educational, economic and sociocultural questions and consequences.

Lecture, close reading, working in groups, discussions about filmclips and literature.

Written and oral contributions by the students.
