Students understand the classic and modern concepts of political theory. They recognize meta-theoretical premises of political theory by scientific contextualization of key concepts. They can link historic and theoretical perspectives and are because of their dealing with theories on citizenship and human rights, social movements and publics, justice, peace and democracy, migration and globalization, political subjectiveness and power of action, injustice and representation as well as state and government able to work on and explain processes of political significance.

(Feminist) political science research increasingly draws on a conceptualization of inclusion and exclusion as constituted along different social categories and dimensions of inequality. In this seminar we will engage with intersectionality and diversity as two approaches developed to study the interconnection/entanglement, mutual contingency and simultaneity of power relations. After a historical introduction to both concepts, we will reflect on the possibilities, potentials and pitfalls of intersectionality and diversity as analytical and policy tools. We will thereby focus on intersectional analyses in the field of migration and gender studies as well as on diversity policies.
