To gain an overview over central aspects and fields of literary studies, guided by historical, theoretical and systematic questions; knowledge of basic concepts of literary studies;  practising methods of analysis and interpretation by reading selected literary texts from a variety of genres.

The course offers an overview over basic fields and aspects of literary studies, guided by central historical, theoretical and systematic questions. Basic concepts of literary studies and literary theory will be taught as well as methods to analyse and interprete literary texts; literary texts from a variety of genres will serve as examples. 

Reading of recommended texts, practical work and discussion; application of the methods and specific concepts acquired.
