summer semester 2018 | Last update: 21.11.2018 | Place course on memo listStudents will be able to identify literary- and cultural-historical contexts on the basis of representative authors, works and genres; they will be able to describe processes of canonization and reception; they will be able to describe the interaction between social, literary- and cultural-historical developments; they will develop the ability to interpret literary texts independently and in line with academic norms.
The course is dedicated to the analysis of selected literary, journalistic and essayistic texts by Stefan Zweig and Joseph Roth - especially with regard to the literary and socio-historical aspects. The focus will be on the two authors' various literary reactions to their conflict-laden times; furthemore the relationship and mutual influence between Roth and Zweig will be discussed in detail.
Introductory presentation, group work, short presentations, classroom discussions
Short presentations, knowledge of the texts, participation, term paper (10-12 pages)
