608294 History of Literature and Literary Life in Present Times
summer semester 2018 | Last update: 08.05.2018 | Place course on memo listCompetence of interpreting texts of German literature, taking into account (inter) cultural, theoretical, social and historical contexts according to scientific principles.
At the turn of the century, a large number of reform movements was to develop alternatives to the prevailing ideas of culture and humanity. The spectrum includes migratory birds, youth and vegetarians as well as Theosophists, light fighters and expressive dancers; they all left their mark in numerous literary texts, if literature was not immediately an important medium of such communities and networks.
The seminar provides a systematic access to the reform movements of the time and asks about their role in social and aesthetic modernization movements. Not only canonized names (Rilke, Kafka and Hesse), but also lesser-known authors like Hans Paasche or Franziska Gräfin zu Reventlow will be in focus.
