The purpose of this course is to present the history of the Italian song from the advent of "Festival di Sanremo" until the end of the millennium. In particular, the course intends to go back to the main stages of the historic festival: from the years of Vola Colomba to the boom of Volare, from the explosion of screamers and the song of author and protest to the suicide of Tenco, from the period of decay to 1978-79, when with discomusic attempts to revive the formula, without too much success.

The history of Festival di Sanremo, the songs, the singer: 50 years of italian costume. It is years of profound social, civil, political transformations and, together, of significant  changes in light music that by simple divertissement tends to become an increasingly flourishing industry and one of the main mediation tools of consensus.

The program will be presented through lectures, use of multimedia supports and sound of songs.

Final oral examination + presentation and discussion of a written "work" (approximately ten pages), on a subject agreed with the teacher.

Gianni Borgna, La grande evasione. Storia del Festival di Sanremo: 30 anni di costume italiano, Savelli editori, Milano, 1980 (from page 32 to 114)

Students are kindely required to follow the course after Kulturstudien VO.

Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
