The hadith (´ilm al-hadith) therefore forms a central theme of classical Islamic sciences. In this seminar at first it will be given an overview of the chronological development of the Hadith, from the earliest oral tradition sayings of the Prophet to the canonical collections. This is followed by an introduction to plug into the science of Usul al-hadith (Hadith methodology) which deals mainly with the question of the authenticity of traditions.
