The acquisition of skills in dealing with the main themes and features of ancient historiography as well as the acquisition of skills in dealing with ancient sources and
research literatur.

'Barbarians' play an important role in ancient historiography. It reflects mechanisms and phenomena of the perception of others and oneself, which will be discussed on the basis of ancient texts. What means 'foreign' to the ancient authors and to what extent does the perception of the other differ from the self-perception? The description of 'wild' men and women (eg Scythians, Celts, Teutons) also provides interesting insights into the perception and representation of gender relations.
