Application of central concepts of the theory of metaphor and phraseology to the analysis of texts (and images); competence to analyze metaphors and phraseologisms critically.

 

 

 

The concepts of the cognitive theory of metaphor and phraseology introduced in the lecture course are applied step for step to the analysis of relevant texts and images (e.g. texts taken from genres such as political rhetoric, advertising, poetry, cartoons, comics, collections of proverbs). Apart from the reconstruction of types of metaphors and phraseologisms the underlying ideologies will be analysed critically.

 

 

 

 

 

Joint analysis of texts/images, combined with assignments of text-/image analyses done by the students at home.

 

Oral and written contributions by the students to the analysis of texts.
