Basic knowledge of the large Native American language families and indigenous cultures of North America and their history; competence to analyze the multiple destruction, exploitation and ethnocentric description of these languages and cultures critically. 

Overview about the major families of Native American languages in North America, their genetic classification and typological description; illustrative sketches of specific languages such as Lakota (Siouan languages), Navaho (Na Dené languages), Hopi, Tohono O'odham (Uto-Aztecan languages), Ojibwe (Algonquian languages) and Cayuga (Iroquoian languages); historical introduction to the indigenous cultures of North America; critical review of their anthropological and philosophical description in  European and U.S. American science and philosophy. 

Teacher-centred instruction; supported by visualization with the help of PowerPoint; presentation of documentaries and feature films.
