The students will gain an insight into relevant literature for social history and history of mentality in Early Modern Times and of concerning discourses.

Reading and contextualisation of selected textes of Early Modern Times like "Il libro del cortegiano" of Baldassare Castiglione and"Il Principe" of Niccolò Machiavelli and dealing with the history of their reception and taking gender aspects into account. Further we will gain skills corcerning reading, interpretation and contextualisation.

Kick-off presentations; reading together; short presentations of the texts by the students including discussion

Attendance, continuous active participation, short final test

Basic literature will be announced in the course.
