Participants of this module acquire a deep understanding of the fundamentals of ion and plasma physics. They are able to independently study and understand advanced aspects of ion and plasma physics. They are prepared for scientific research in ion and plasma physics.
Creation of charged particles, creation and characterisation of plasmas, gas discharges, interaction between ions and neutral atoms and other charged particles, surfaces and light, analysis of ions and plasmas, magnetic confinmenet of plasmas, plasma dynamics and instabilities, space charge structures, theoretical description of individual molecules, clusters, nano particles and plasmas, ion-molecule reactions, reaction kinetics, reaction dynamics, thermochemistry, dissociation mechanisms, biomolecular ions
The lecture combines chalk with screen presentations. Students acquire a deeper understanding of the topics by reading original research and review articles, which are provided for download. A list of questions gives guidelines to understand the articles. Problems sheets for calculation and discussion enable students to actively use the acquired knowledge on problems in research and applications.
