The students are able to assess gender as analytical category for historical themes. They have knowledge about the historicity of gender and social relations, about the historicity of knowledge. They are able to examine critically the use of history to legitimise current conditions.

In the course the students will focus on social relations in the past (especially: Ancient History and its reception). Thereby the historical sources (texts, material inheritance) will be analysed with major categories of gender studies (e.g. gender, sexual differences, body) combined with relevant questions of history (e.g. objectivity/partiality).

The main theme is about "Ordnung des Wissens: Sammlungen und der historische Raum". (In cooperation with Schloss Ambras and Archäologisches Museum/University of Innsbruck).

Combination of lecture, guided reading, presentation by students, and discussion.

Participation in the discussion, oral presentation, written work.

Literature will be announced in class.
