We will focus in particular on the following issues: the concept and definition of genocide (How does genocide differ from mass murder? What is genocidal intent? What is a people for the purposes?); cases of genocide past and present (Philippines, Namibia, Armenians, Former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Syria, Myanmar,...); radical evil; ideologies of dehumanization; international prosecution of genocide; genocide as justification/pretense for the use of force. Special emphasis will be laid on the exchange of philosophical and legal perspectives.
