The students are able to reproduce deepended knowledge of a special area of German linguistics and can work scientifically and independently on a certain topic.

About 85% of the world’s population affiliate oneself with a Religion. Experiencing, teaching, reflecting, exploiting … religion is essentially done via language. Religious discourse takes place not only in private but also in public. How does language reflect the phenomenon of religion? What is religious language? The pro-seminar will approach this subject in focussing on the linguistic discipline of sociolinguistics. After an introduction to the theoretical and methodological basics we examine functional and sociolectal varieties that are related to the phenomenon of religion (e.g. language of liturgy, Religion and youth language, Religious language in Politics …).
