Awareness of the problem that published texts are the archievement of poetic work and decisions of publishing houses; knowledge of textual constitution and scholarly commentary; presentation of the work results in scholarly edition

Basic knowledge of scholarly editing in German philology in theory as well as practical examples. Exercises to the idea of literary sources, the critical assessment of sources in philology, textual constitution, forms of scholarly commentary, and to concepts of scholarly editions. Together we work out how to deal with the different materials. Discussion of the problems of manuscript research, of biographical investigation, and of copyright. Text to be edited can be proposed by the participants of the course.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).
