Ability to critically analyse langauge and language use based on the knowledge from the lecture. deepened methodological awareness and ability of scientific argumentation.

Language defines and creates social relations. Language (use) is socially regulated and politically planned. By analysing concrete examples we will deal with national, regional and institutional language politics and language policies. By a critical glimpse on language (use) we will handle questions of diversity and heterogeneity of a society, power relations and the definition of belonging as well as language ideologies and ways to detect and handle them.

Preparatory reading and discussion of relevant texts, exemplary analysis of examples, short presentations
