The aim of this lecture is to familiarise students with key concepts of theoretical, critical and methodological approaches to British and postcolonial literary studies.

Contents:

Introduction to British and Postcolonial Literary Studies offers a first overview over the wide field of English and Postcolonial Literatures. We will look at key texts from different literary periods and cultural contexts especially with regard to their generic features and historical characteristics. In the proces we will apply basic concepts of literary theory and and methods of critical inquiry.
