622007 PS Contemporary History: Modernizing state and society in Spain (1875 - 2018) - social and political challenges
winter semester 2018/2019 | Last update: 03.10.2018 | Place course on memo listAcquisition of basic skills for dealing with historic sources and presentations of Contemporary History as well as skills in presenting the newly acquired knowledge orally as well as in writing. Acquisition of basic knowledge and application of relevant methods aiding scientific research.
In this class we will study certain problems of the Spanish state and society – the social question, the dominance of the military establishment, questions of special rights of certain regionsl (e. g. Catalonia), problems of secularization – covering the period of the Ancien Régime, the Second Republic, Franco’s dictatorship and the democratic state. The second topic of this course will be the analysis of news in the international press of the last years touching certain current questions.
Oral presentations and handout, paper, discussion; internet search, Press-portfolio, exercises; teacher's lecture.
Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, active participation in discussions, press-portfolio, oral presentation and handout, final paper.
Guided research of pertinent literature will be part of the expected tasks.
Due to substantial differences in the allocation of ECTS-Credits in various curricula (teacher training programs/specialized degree programs), the requirements for this course vary. Information will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
