Basic knowledge of architectural history in its dependency on political, economical and cultural conditions; critical reflection on one’s own position as an architect in overall cultural production.

Basics of architectural history including urban building history and construction history of the 19th and 20th century. Architectural theory and preservation of monuments are touched as well. The main architectural ideas of a century are discussed in their social context and analysed according to the four most important criteria: Design, functionality, construction and meaning.

Lecture, assessment is based on a single examination at the end of the course.

The written examination lasts one hour. Students will be asked several questions according to lessons; regular attendance to lessons is required. Short versions of lectures will be offered online. To prepare the examination an individual preparation in the university’s libraries is required.

Will be discussed during lessons.
