Development of an Independent project in the training and enhancement of the analytical, planning and creative abilities; learning skills for the presentation and documentation of a Bachelor’s Thesis.

Zero Piranesi

Within the discipline of Architecture, the plan of Piranesi’s Il Campo Marzio dell'antica Roma from 1762 became the synonym of modern architecture. What was meant to modern within his plan of the Antic Rome, was that buildings become figurative entities standing by themselves without being embedded in an urban fabric as the role architecture played within pre-modern cities.

Through the importance of status of Piranesi plan, many architects of the post modern area until today have try to formulate a personal reading of Piranesi’s plan in order to project their own thesis on contemporary architecture. The latest of such an attempt was presented in the 2012 Venice Biennale.

The intention of the design studio is the formulate a zero architectural design approach on Piranesi’s Plan of Campo Marzio.

Project on Piranesi

The first Phase of the Bachelor project will be to analyses several project of post modern and contemporary architects who have use Piranesi’s plan for their own architectural thesis. The research will cover project from Peter Eisenman, Pier Vittorio Aureli, Jeffery Kipnis, Aldo Rossi, Oswalt Matthias Unger’s and Piranesi itself.

Design Methodology

The aim of the studio is to apply a zero architectural design method, which is based on the premises to use existing architectural objects and reassemble them is such a manner that their loose their from and their content.

Design workshops

Within the first phase of the studio a series of digital design workshops are applied on the idea of the one and the many. This workshops aim to give each student the related skills to handle their project, but more particular confront each of the students with the disciplinary problems between parts and whole relationships.
