Gender Theories

The students are able to assess the main gender theories in social sciences and know how to define main questions of gender studies. They have knowledge about social movement theories and about the connectivity of gender studies to humanities, cultural studies, social sciences and economics. They are able to classify the relevance of gender als a fundamental structural category in social contexts.

The lectures provides a survey of gender theories, the continuities and turns within feminist theories as well of the transcultural gender studies. The connection between feminist theory and social movements are analyzed and the relevance of trans- and interdisciplinarity is clarified.
