An examination of management practices, behavioral implications and organizational systems from the perspective of classical and contemporary theory.

The term “management” applies to virtually all efforts to guide and direct the work of people, processes and systems. It has particular, scientific relevance when applied to guiding the efforts of other human beings in a formal workplace. Organizations are the primary means by which people combine their professional efforts to achieve a set of desired outcomes. Therefore, “management” and “organizations” represent the fundamental platforms for the supervision of the efforts of employees in their professional work and the attainment of agreed upon objectives—at all levels, for all types of work and in all places.

This course combines lectures, readings, class discussions and casestudies.

Attendance is required. Final grade will be determined on the basis of preparation, class participation and three exams during the semester.  Exam questions and problems will be drawn from the assigned readings, PowerPoint slides, in-class assignments and discussions.
