Participants give an overview of the subject’s history, its systematic development and main methods. They describe and critically evaluate selected topics (i.a. the term “religion”, rituals, religion and politics).

The course gives an overview of the subject’s history, the term „religion“ and offers a basic introduction to the history of religions. It discusses selected topics in religious studies, i.a. rituals, religion and politics, religious experiences and the contemporary situation in a modern world.
Religious Studies regards religion as an anthropological phenomenon and is based on a non-engaged relationship towards religion. Therefore it is important to evaluate its connection to other sciences, which deal with “religion”, especially theology.
