Current issues in European Union law and academic writing skills

This course aims to transfer skills which the students will find useful when drafting their own doctoral thesis. After having completed this course, students will be able to gather information on current developments in EU law and to assess them in light of the academic literature. They will also be able to communicate their research results more effectively due to newly acquired academic writing skills.

The course examines contemporary issues of EU law, with a particular focus on the following issues: EU-exit of the United Kingdom, threats to the rule of law in Poland/Hungary, fundamental rights protection, data protection, EU-citizenship. Suggestions by students regarding further topics are welcome. In addition, students will be introduced to basic principles of successful academic writing.

Interactive presentation.

Final written exam.

Will be made available on OLAT.

Students should be able to read academic articles in English.
