Students will acquire well-grounded knowledge of the study of gender and politics and will be able to critically read and analyze current and cutting-edge contributions in the field. They will be acquainted with empirical facts about how gender matters in contemporary politics and will be able to critically examine the roll gender plays. Students will be encouraged to discuss relevant literature in the field of politics and gender and to reflect scientific discourses through the lenses of gender theories.

The content of the course is designed to involve the wide range discussion of the fields of gender and politics. An in depth knowledge about the main streamings of political science and gender research will be transmitted. The category gender will be analysed in interdependency to other categories – ethnicity, class, identity and sexual orientation – with respect to their historical background and their potential of change. The diverse range of political theories as well as the actual political topics with the feminist critique and discourses about them will be questioned with focus on their explicit and implicit gender norms.
